Compare/contrast.
Since I live very close to the border, I once considered studying in the US, but the prices of tuition honestly made me want to throw up. I can get the same standard of education here for maybe a tenth of the price. The average, middle-class American could probably afford to go to a state school, but anything above that would require massive loans for a very long time. And I can’t imagine what a nightmare it must be for people who change their majors and need to take an extra year or two, or for people who realized college/university wasn’t for them and had to drop out. Hell, I don’t even want to think about the financial shithole that law and medical students have to deal with.
I don’t care if you think the government is some hippie atheist boogeyman with a gay agenda. Access to education is absolutely essential to the survival of the middle class. A vote against government subsidies for education is a vote to increase the gap between the rich and the poor, and it’s a vote to keep the “American dream” increasingly out of the average American’s reach.
